Interested in becoming a volunteer for Insight Society Services.
We are always recruiting for volunteers to help and support us with our services. We need number of volunteers who can spare some time to run social groups and sports activities etc. We have different volunteer roles available please contact us for further information.
Role description and advantages of being a volunteer.
Key tasks:
- Meet, greet and support people who are blind or partially sighted
- Sight guiding and supporting service users
- Offer emotional support relating to sight loss
- Set up before session and tidy up after session
- Prepare and serve refreshments as and when required
- Maintain Insight Society values and confidentiality at all times
Key Skills:
- Ability to empathise with service users
- Take a non-judgemental approach at all times
- Good Communication skills – written, verbal and listening
- The ability to initiate face to face conversation
- Punctuality and commitment
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise work
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills
- You need to be comfortable volunteering in an environment where guide dogs may be present
References and Disclosure Barring service check will be required when working with Service Users on a one to one basis

Please note that all volunteers will be required to agree to a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure before they start to work with Insight Society.
We will also require at least one reference from a former employer, volunteering organisation or educational establishment.
